Kansas City Rent Strike Confronts 'Notice To Vacate' & Legal Threats

It seems that progressive local political action organized during election season has backfired on low-income residents.

Moreover . . .

TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! LANDLORDS AREN'T RENEWING LEASES FOR RESIDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE "RENT STRIKE" ORGANIZED BY KC TENANTS!!!

Is it retaliation??? Maybe . . . But landlords are also well-within their rights to decline another lease to someone who isn't playing.

But aside from legal debates . . .

What's most concerning is that low-income people living in horrible conditions and desperate for help are now facing the prospect of moving during Winter given that social justice protest has yet to live up to promises and only served to publicize a political protest group.

 Here are more deets . . .

"On Friday, Nov. 22, KC Tenants said Sentinel Real Estate Corporation, the owner of Quality Hill Towers, issued at least ten lease non-renewal notices to tenants on strike. The notices threatened legal action if tenants did not move out by Dec. 31 - Jan. 19.

"The tenant union said these non-renewals are bad faith and retaliatory for a rent strike that has been going on for nearly two months. Members believe the move will only escalate the dilemma. A week before, they requested a meeting with Sentinel leaders to reach an agreement to end the strike. The company has not responded."
