Kansas City ONE BILLION DOLLAR Lady Soccer Party District Awaits

Actually . . . Unless they're putting the cash into parking . . . This might not make a difference.

Remember . . .

ONE BILLION BUCKS COULDN'T EVEN CONVINCE VOTERS TO PICK VEEP KAMALA HARRIS!!!

A life affirming fact . . . Sometimes money isn't the answer.

More importantly . . .

All of these development schemes take place in the shadow of A LOT OF EMPTY SEATS at games this year.

We're not being a hater . . . The KC Currents are a great organization, for avid fans their games are very much worthwhile.

However . . .

In a town that loves Chiefs & Royals most of all . . . There just isn't the fanbase so far and not much to suggest that years of hype will change this fact.

Meanwhile . . . In fairness . . . We'll share a quote from the plan that we've liberated from behind a paywall:

"Executives working on the Current's $1 billion district shed more light on those plans, and others meant to reconnect Berkley Riverfront to Downtown, during a "State of Downtown" event organized by the Downtown Council of Kansas City. The first-time event took place Nov. 20 at the riverfront's new Origin Hotel Kansas City, as a more relevant spin on the nonprofit's past annual office summits.

"In the past six months, the team has conducted market research to understand how to curate the right mix of businesses for 53,000 square feet of retail planned in the district's $200 million first phase, said Scott McCubbrey, managing director of Marquee. That mix is planned to be "hyperlocal" in focus, with a combination of local and national food and beverage operators, plus fitness and entertainment tenants.
At its peak, CPKC Stadium is expected to host about 50 annual events. On non-game days, McCubbrey said the future retailers and public gathering areas tying them together would bring vibrancy to the riverfront district."
