Another Kansas City showdown is in the works right now . . . Once again we share more background that most local newsies don't know or might be too scared to consider . . .
Insiders warn that political connections from Kansas City's "official" compost provider might be influencing this decision more than most readers realize.
A couple things first . . .
- Credit to Urbavore farm for keeping this discussion reasonable and chill as a council member cited "racially-charged threats" in this discussion that CLEARLY aren't coming from this group.
- Once again there's a connection to THE POLITICS OF KCMO PUBLIC WORKS that threatens to tarnish any crackdown against local urban farms.
Finally . . . Here's the real question . . .
INVESTMENT IN EAST SIDE KANSAS CITY IS NOW AT STAKE IF URBAVORE URBAN FARM CONFRONTS 12TH & OAK REBUKE!!!
Why???
Word travels fast and some of the rhetoric and low-key fear of CITY HALL CORRUPTION sends a clear message to those who want to put their money in East KC . . . Sadly, this case will inform/update us regarding political leverage that can quickly threaten any business endeavor THEREBY discouraging active investment.
The best way to avoid this perception . . . Maybe mayor & council might understand that a minor zoning variance shouldn't be a fight for survival for local small biz.
Either way . . .
This decision is more important than most locals realize and it deserves attention.
For now, here's the backstory . . .
"The City Council’s agenda for today includes action to put an end to a zoning dispute at the heart of tensions between an urban farm, its neighbors and city officials in charge of regulations that can make urban farming difficult.
"The council will be presented with a master development plan, created by Urbavore Urban Farm and approved by the City Plan Commission, to renovate the farm located north of Swope Park and to bring it in line with zoning regulations."
