Kansas City 2024 Homicide #132: East Side Gunfire Kills Teen

Tragically, the local quotient of misery, bloodshed and lost opportunity continues to spike as we enter the holiday season.

Here is the first report . . .

Homicide 7500 block E 85th Ter

This evening around 6:30PM, officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of E 85th Ter. on a reported shooting.

Officers arrived on scene and were summoned to a grassy area within an apartment complex and were advised someone had been shot. A juvenile male, over 15 years of age, was located unresponsive and suffering from gunshot trauma. Medical aid was immediately rendered by responding officers until EMS arrived. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he had succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Preliminary information indicates there may had been a disturbance in the area involving an unknown number of people that escalated to shots being fired and the victim being struck.

We do not have a person of interest identified and no one is currently in custody.

Crime scene personnel and homicide detectives have responded to the scene and already begin gathering witness statements and collecting any evidence.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
