Kansas City 2024 Homicide #129: Deadly Gunfire Erupts During Fight

Kansas City tempers flare tonight and result in the latest local fatality.

Homicide 2700 Blk of Garfield

Tonight right at 6pm officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Garfield on a shooting call.

On arrival officers were directed into a residence on the block there. Inside that residence officers located an adult male shooting victim unresponsive. Officers summoned EMS into the scene who declared the victim deceased.

There were multiple individuals at the scene when officers arrived. One of those, an adult male, was detained as a subject of interest for further investigation.

Detectives are not searching for any additional suspects at this time.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was inside the residence when he had an interaction with a suspect that escalated and led to gunfire and the victim was struck.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
