The state is proposing up to $140 million annually over 10 years to fund water infrastructure needs. The concept includes $8 million to be raised from proposed agriculture irrigation water use fees.
“Whether we do water use fees, you know, obviously that’s on the table. Do I think that’ll ultimately be the primary funding source? No, I don’t,” Kansas Governor Kelly says.
Kansas Farm Bureau has pushed back on potential water use fees. Additional funding would be raised through sales tax, bonding, severance tax increases and existing fees.
Kelly says the goal of the Kansas Water Plan will be to ensure two generations of water are available across the state.
