The only thing we know for certain is that the plan to move the Royals near Crown Center might be the last, silly shot of keeping the home team in town if people are getting fired to keep the dream alive.

Gorenc said that the next day, Morgan Said, former chief of staff for Mayor Quinton Lucas and current advisor to the mayor, called to inform him he might be removed from the board.

He said a few days later, Said called back to confirm he was off the board.

Gorenc believes his dismissal was due to expressing his opinion about the Royals' ballpark proposal to KMBC.

"I think that's 100% the reason," he said.

Lucas addressed the situation, stating, "I have never talked to placement or appointment or resignation of certain commissioners on any board or commission. I appreciate Tom; I’ve appointed him to a number of things. We remain good friends with any number of issues."
