Responding to recent questions and a bit of local progressive frustration . . . It seems that 12th & Oak is at least ready to push some paper on this project that has faded from public memory.
Here's the latest roundup . . .
"A solar farm at KCI has been on the radar of city officials since at least the fall of 2021.
"In a memo, city staff outlined a timeline for the project, with construction set to begin within 12 months of final approvals, or toward the end of 2026/early 2027.
"An ordinance for debate next week in the council’s Finance, Governance and Public Safety Committee would authorize city officials to enter into a “pre-development” agreement with Evergy."
Now . . .
Forgive our skepticism but "pre-development" sounds just a bit dicey. Like something that merits consolation from a lady friend and assurance that "it happens to other guys too."
Remember that we're still waiting on that glare study that didn't favor the first version of this project.
For now . . . This presser and more hype in the works is all we have . . .
