Local Leader Claims Kansas City Needs 'BILLIONS' To Fight Crime

This week it seems that inflation is taking its toll on public safety in Kansas City.

To wit . . .

AN ANTI-CRIME LEADER CLAIMS KANSAS CITY'S PUBLIC SAFETY CRISIS REQUIRES BILLIONS WORTH OF INVESTMENT TO SOLVE!!!

It's safe to assume that we're talking about cash IN ADDITION TO money already budgeted for police and so many other "anti-crime" schemes powered by current city hall funding.

And so . .

Let's take a second to look at the local social justice invoice . . . Check-it . . .

KC Common Good CEO Klassie Alcine was another member of the panel Tuesday. After the discussion we asked her about fundraising.

“How much money do you think we’re talking about?” we asked.

“Billions. Billions,” she replied.

“Is that possible?” we followed up with.

“100% possible,” Alcine replied. “Other cities have done it. I mean, I think a lot of this talks about getting into the school systems, also empowering folks who are in that intervention space with economic empowerment and opportunities, but for sure, I think that this plan is going to need a lot of investment, but at the same time, you’re talking about areas that have not been invested in for decades, so it’s going to take a lot of money to fill in that gap.”

Now . . .

Before reactionaries start criticizing Ms. Alcine . . . We should remind readers that she's very smart, she understands the media & local political game and she generally has the best interests of KCMO at heart.

Also . . . Just a bit of personal insight here . . . Everybody who knows Ms. Alcine instantly becomes one of her fans. A quick look through the archives might reveal that she was one of TKC's top 10 under 30 at one point. And all of this is to say that her comments & estimates might be controversial to some but they're coming from a place of genuine concern for KCMO.

Accordingly . . .

Instead of personal attacks let's be more creative & constructive whilst considering the premise of this argument . . .

HOW SHOULD KANSAS CITY SPEND BILLIONS TO FIGHT CRIME?!?

For years locals have been begging for more police on local streets. Sadly, it looks like even Missouri GOP efforts on this front haven't been successful as KCPD remains "understrength' according to some of our readers who have a genuine concern & respect for police.

With that kind of cash we could bring back the mounted patrol.

And "BILLIONS" might even provide some viable educational alternatives beyond the FAILING & inept KCPS.

And so . . .

We ask our blog community for ideas for spending that would cut crime rather than merely awarding 12th & Oak political allies with sketchy contracts and no-show jobs . . . Which, basically, has been the same FAILED plan that KCMO elected leadership have been working since about 1965.
