UPDATE: Kansas City Motorcycle Traffic Officer In Critical Condition After Crash

Here's the first statement from KCPD after a recent crash . . . 

KCPD Officer Injured in Traffic Crash

This morning at 9:40 am a motorcycle traffic officer was involved in a crash at the intersection of 72nd and Troost. Investigation indicates the motorcycle officer was northbound when a southbound SUV turned left (east) in front of the officer causing a collision.

Responding officers and EMS administered aid and transported the officer to the hospital with what was reported to be Critical, life threatening injuries. The officer has since been upgraded to critical, but stable condition and admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The other involved driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

KCPD was initially alerted to this crash thanks to some quick thinking by some nearby bystanders who rushed to the officer’s aid after hearing the crash. One person pushed the emergency button on the officer’s police radio while another person provided medical aid and CPR. Because of those citizen’s quick thinking we were alerted to the emergency, and able to locate the officer quickly, thanks to GPS on the police radio’s.

Chief Graves expressed her deep appreciation for the many bystanders that rushed to the officers aid, EMS personnel with KCFD, and the Medical Staff at the hospital, along with the numerous KCPD officers who responded to the scene and who are conducting the investigation. Chief also asks the community to keep the injured officer, his family, and all of KCPD in their prayers.
