Kansas City 2024 Rent Strike Starts

Right now we want to share more context on today's power move against federal housing.

There's a temptation to deride denizens of these embattled apartment complexes when, in fact, many of these folks have legit complaints. 

However . . .

Kansas City Common Sense: Playing politics with rent money is EXCEPTIONALLY RISKY. That's just a fact. 

We hope locals can find a solution . . . For now, make no mistake is that most of what we're watching is campaign season bluster and efforts to motivate local voters in support of progressive policies and candidates from an organization that has good intentions BUT IS ALSO mostly funded by dark money.

These rent strikes represent the first time efforts have been targeted at the Federal Housing Finance Authority.

According to KC Tenants’ Instagram, the rent strike is a strategic collective action where tenants will withhold their rent to achieve a set of demands:

- National rent caps
- New ownerships
- Collectively bargained leases
