Kansas City 2024 Homicide #125: Police Investigate After Dead Body On Sidewalk

The latest local killing was documented earlier today as authorities hope community & neighbors will come forward with info that could help the ongoing investigation.

Here's what we know right now . . .

Homicide 17th and Cambridge

This morning around 5:30AM, officers were dispatched to the intersection of E 17th and Cambridge on a reported EMS call.

Officers arrived on scene prior to EMS and located an apparent adult male lying on the sidewalk. He was unresponsive and suffering from unknown bodily trauma. EMS responded shortly after and pronounced the victim deceased. Officers on scene asked for assistance from homicide detectives due to the death appearing suspicious in nature. Detectives were sent to the scene to investigate further and it was determined this incident would be investigated as a homicide.

At this time, we do not have any preliminary information leading up to what happened this morning. There has not been a person of interest identified and no one is in custody.

Homicide detectives are working quickly and efficiently to speak with witnesses and canvass the area for any evidence that could assist with determining what happened and who may be responsible. Crime scene personnel have also responded to process the scene and gather any evidence to assist with the investigation.

This investigation is ongoing at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
