What stands out to us in this report is a really nice apartment conversion occupied by a gunman.
Luckily . . . KCPD prevented any injury to innocent bystanders of victims and even apprehended the suspect who sustained injuries that aren't life threatening.
Here's the report and more documentation that'll probably be omitted from future news about the downtown real estate market . . .
Operation 100-3000 block of E 8th
Around 8:30PM officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of E 8th St. on a reported disturbance with a weapon.
Officers arrived to a residence and observed a male subject matching the description of the suspect provided in call notes. The adult male entered the lower residence of a home that had been converted into an upper and lower level apartment. Officers attempted to speak to him and the male shut the door of the residence and barricaded himself inside the apartment. Officers attempted to negotiate with the subject and have him exit the apartment. Around that time, they heard a single gunshot come from inside of the apartment and exit outside of the residence.
Due to the escalation of violence displayed by the male subject, responding officers deescalated, backed away to cover, and surrounded the home to prevent escape and protect surrounding residents.
Officers called for an operation 100/ police standoff to bring additional resources and trained negotiators to the scene.
Negotiators continued their efforts to convince the male subject to peacefully exit the residence and surrender to police.
At 11:23PM, after several hours of negotiating, the male exited the residence, presented a threat, and officers engaged.
The subject was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.
