Bike/Walk KC Blames 'Bad Policy' For Student Death At Troost Crosswalk

This evening we check local activists AND TRAFFIC CONSULTANTS OFFERING CONTRACT SERVICES . . . . Sharing their insight and seemingly attempting to garner political capital from a tragic death.

Context . . .

We don't claim to be a traffic expert and we don't want to be callous BUT it's entirely possible that no manner of "road diet" schemes would have saved a student that was new to town and didn't know her way around.

What's more questionable is that any amount of streetscaping can prevent every tragedy whislt downplaying the importance of traffic flow for the overall benefit of communities.

OF COURSE . . . We want pedestrians to be safe . . . And after seeing sketchy ideas from this group take hold on Armour Blvd & elsewhere . . . We're not certain if their advice is worthwhile or will just create more confusion.

In fairness . . . Here's their argument . .  .

"It’s important to understand that crashes like the one that killed Yuxi Wu are the result of policy choices that make Troost Avenue and other streets in our city unsafe. As tragic as that is, it also means we can choose to build something better. The only way we can do that, however, is by speaking up and demanding that our leaders build something better."
