Advance Voting Starts: Which Way Is Johnson County Voting?!?

More than any other destination . . . Johnson County, Kansas provides a microcosm of the American electorate inasmuch as neither party can COMPLETELY lay claim to voter hearts & minds.

What was formerly a GOP enclave of upwardly mobile and mostly white suburbanites now hosts a growing contingent of progressive activists, diverse residents on the high & low end, International tech workers, migrants and very, very angry feminist organizers powered by one too many pumpkin spice lattes.

We visit often but it's not our hood . . . And so we ask our blog community for greater insight . . .

The choice pretty much dictates all of the local down ballot contests and offers a glimpse at the future on a national level.

Accordingly . . . Here's a peek at the first day at the polls . . .

Johnson County, one of the biggest counties in the state, saw a particularly high turnout just an hour after doors had opened.

We have over 3,000 people that voted the first hour on this Saturday," said Fred Sherman, election commissioner for Johnson County.

Advance voting has kicked off in additional counties across Kansas, including Johnson and Wyandotte County, as voters take advantage of the early voting period ahead of a big general election.
