Sketchy Tourism Numbers Proclaim Record Kansas City Visitors

Let's start with context . . . 

Visit KC has been so "irrationally exuberant" about tourism stats that their boosterism has earned nationwide meme clap back, fact-checking and mockery. 

Locals have always scoffed a bit at these claims that might play well on tourism videos but don't hold up to scrutiny for anybody who takes a walk downtown on a weekday afternoon.

Nevertheless . . . 

Whilst acknowledging all of these caveats . . . We skeptically share their latest talking point by way of presser released only to friendly outlets . . . Check-it:  

"Kansas City welcomed a record number of visitors last year, who brought with them a record amount of spending in the region. According to VisitKC, more than 28 million people came to the city in 2023, a nearly 5% increase from 2022. Those visitors spent about $4 billion during their trips."

Major events and superstar visitors made Kansas City a more popular travel destination in 2023. The city is hoping to harness that excitement and bring more tourists and residents to the area.
