This widespread sentiment deserves repeating because local media don't convey skepticism very well and always bury it in their coverage . . .

MAYOR Q'S CASH PAYOUT PLAN FOR SMALL BIZ CONFRONTS DOUBT!!! LOCALS SEEM TO WANT ENFORCEMENT & PROSECUTION TO END THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE!!!

The economics are basic . . .

There's not enough money in the world to protect small biz from lawless conditions and what's worse is the rising crime will prevent new merchants trying their luck in Kansas City.

Again, cynicism about the Kansas City Crime Cash Rewards Plan has been echoed throughout local social media but we respect that at least one biz owner is willing to go on record with his concerns.

Here's the quote we wanted to highlight . . .

Another recent crime victim agreed the fund is a positive move from the city, “but it doesn’t get to the root of the problem.”

“There’s an epidemic of crime in Kansas City right now, and it’s not being handled effectively,” Andrew Cameron, owner of Donutology, whose historic Trolley location in River Market suffered more than $3,000 in damages last week.

It was an all-too-common scene: a break-in caught on security cameras with few consequences for the culprits.

“It feels like we’re not prosecuting people,” he added. “We don’t have enough resources, and that’s affecting how safe people feel in their businesses.”
