Kansas City Northeast News Down To Four Pages After Nonprofit Takeover

First and foremost . . . We want the Northeast News to come through this struggle intact but their hardship proves our point.

The nonprofit model for journalism isn't perfect and will jeopardize any publication unable to understand the inherent risks of this paradigm.

One expert has told us:

"Nonprofit is just a tax structure, publications must still focus on revenue/income if they plan to survive."

For larger statewide outlets the nonprofit model can garner out-of-state funding from partisan interests and wealthy donors who don't really know how the news works or are willing to fund an agenda at any costs.

However . . .

A local niche publication like Northeast News might have a harder time making their case to those with deep pockets or any special interest more focused on spreading a message far & wide rather than building trust within smaller communities.

Accordingly . . .

Here's the latest update from the beloved and historic publication that's barely able to put out a product this month . . .

"As you may have noticed, this issue has a different look than previous editions. This four-page, print product was produced to honor the contracts with our advertisers, sponsors and circulation team.

"We are currently asking for financial support from our readership. If you would like to see more articles within our print edition, we are in need of consistent donations, which are tax deductible."
