After the tragic killing of a beloved local chef amid a string of break-ins and small biz robberies, KCMO residents have been mostly concerned with the future of this cowtown as crime continues to take hold despite lower homicide numbers compared to last year's record breaking tally.

An impending decision on a Missouri ballot initiative meet with a critical deadline this week.

Mayor Lucas's brief argues the Missouri Supreme Court Should not allow anti-abortion extremists to silence voters. Over 250,00 Missourians signed the petition to put Amendment 3 on the ballot, and the Secretary of State weeks ago confirmed that the petition and its signatures were valid.

" Missourians have the right to participate in shaping laws that govern their lives. But by removing the reproductive rights measure from the ballot at the eleventh hour, the lower court is silencing voters' voices and undermining the principles of democratic self-government that this State and Country were founded upon," said Mayor Lucas.
