Suspicious Death - NOW HOMICIDE - 5700 Block of Bales

On 09-06-24 about 11:30 PM KCPD was notified by KCFD of a fire at a residence in the 5700 block of Bales with a deceased person inside.

KCPD Detectives, including Bomb and Arson investigators responded to the scene, which is common in the case of a death associated with a fire.

Based on the preliminary investigation of the circumstances the death was classified as suspicious in nature, and would be dependent on the examination findings from the Medical Examiner’s Office.

This morning, Detectives received the results of the Medical Examiner’s findings which listed the manner of death as Homicide.  This investigation is now classified as a Homicide, and investigation is being led by our Homicide Unit.

The circumstances leading up to the fire and the death of the victim are all still under investigation. The cause of death is not available at this time.

Homicide detectives will be working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the Victim’s identification. It is anticipated that a confirmed victim ID could be significantly delayed.

If anyone heard or saw anything in this area or has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
