Kansas City 2024 Homicide #106: 78-Year-Old Dies After Altercation

For Sunday, once again our www.TonysKansasCity.com blog community notes another deadly altercation that the latest addition to this year's homicide count.

We have redacted the victim's name from this report but it's worth noting the he was a white male of 78 years-old, which reminds us that the current crime uptick isn't always confined to any single demographic.

Here is the first report . . . 

Homicide (LATE DEATH) 4100 block N Brighton

On 09/01/2024, at approximately 0930AM, Shoal Creek officers were dispatched to the 4100 block N. Brighton Avenue in regard to an assault.

Upon arrival, they located the victim . . . Lying on the concrete suffering from apparent head trauma. A witness at the scene advised an adult male suspect and the victim had been in a verbal argument that turned into a physical altercation, where the victim fell and struck his head. EMS responded to the scene and transported the Victim to the hospital in critical condition.

At approximately 3:47PM, detectives were notified the Victim had died from his injuries. A subject of interest has been identified and detectives are working to locate him.

Homicide detectives have assumed responsibility of the investigation and this case is ongoing at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
