The numbers started closer to 500 and now the total has TRIPLED in less than 48 hours.

News of layoffs started Friday with assurances about GM retooling their Fairfax facility as they switched production on the Malibu and move to EV manufacturing. Now, as the layoff  notices get more detailed, we're getting word of more terminations added to the job loss numbers that seem to indicate decreased GM demand/revenue overall. 

Accordingly . . .

Here's the word . . .

General Motors (GM) will begin laying off 1,695 workers at its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas, the company said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice earlier this week.

The first of two rounds of layoffs will begin Nov. 18 and will include the temporary layoff of 686 full-time workers and the termination of 250 temporary employees, Automotive News reported on Saturday citing a company filing to the state of Kansas.

A GM spokesperson, confirming the layoffs initially reported by Automotive News, said the first of two rounds will begin on Nov. 18, affecting 686 full-time workers temporarily and terminating 250 temporary employees. Under the second phase, to begin on Jan. 12 of next year, 759 full-time workers will be temporarily laid off, the spokesperson confirmed.
