Fact Check: KCI Third Place Ranking Isn't As Good As Old Airport

To be fair . . .

There's no going back . . . Old KCI has been demolished and we've got to make the best with what we've got.

However . . .

It's fair and important to consider promises from politicos vs. reality.

To do that we must remember a bit of recent history.

Consider . . .

J.D. Power and Associates rated KCI as the top medium-sized airport in its 2010 North America Satisfaction Study

#1 is an impressive ranking and something that KC was proud to earn.

Today . . .

Without protected pedestrian walkways from parking lot to the terminals . . . And a cell-phone waiting lot scheme that's much more inefficient than the classic KCI design.

The news is good but not quite so impressive . . . Check-it:

Kansas City aviation officials announced on Wednesday, Sept. 18, that the Kansas City International Airport had ranked third in customer satisfaction for large North American airports by the 2024 J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study.

“The Kansas City International Airport is not just the front door to our community—it’s also now officially one of our nation’s finest airports. I am proud the new terminal is now recognized nationally as one of the best for our innovation, wide variety of amenities, and positive flyer experience. We built the new terminal with intentionality and all travelers in mind, whether you’re traveling with family, for business, solo, or anywhere in between,” said Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas. “I applaud our Director of Aviation Melissa Cooper and the rest of our staff working to ensure KCI is the most efficient and comfortable place to travel in and out of. As we continue to grow and improve, KCI will remain an exciting gateway for opportunity and a symbol of Kansas City’s bright future.”
