Council Ladies Devise 'Hot Spot' Plan To Curb Crime Ahead Of Public Safety Tax Spike Push

Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Call for Service Map and Dashboard shows more than 24,700 calls have been made. Nearly 13,000 were made to the KCPD Central and East Patrol Divisions.

City Councilmembers Melissa Patterson Hazley and Melissa Robinson gathered a group of community leaders outside the Sun Fresh Market at 31st and Prospect Ave. to share their frustrations and their plans for a safer KC . . .

The council members plan to deploy trained community outreach professionals in hot spots, work with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority about bus stop operations, and invest in youth services, like the KC Futures Commission which allows teens to learn more about government inside Kansas City City Hall.

Along with this plan, they continue working to pass a one-quarter cent public safety sales tax that would produce $700 million over 32 years to fund a detention center, substance abuse facility, low-barrier shelter, and transitional housing.
