Preston Smith Part I: "Jackson County Shared My Personal Info!!!"

Things are heating up at the Courthouse and we need two posts to cover all the recent drama.

Yesterday, a presser from the Courthouse seemed serious but we noticed local media held off on sharing it . . . Our friend Preston Smith offers context:

"The County felt compelled to put out my personal information into a press release and say they are asking the Sheriff to investigate the effort that I have started to get people to fill out refund forms and send to the Collector."

 Now here's our perspective . . .

Preston Smith has always been honest with us . . . 100% of the time. Ask around about him, his reputation as a conservative tax fighter is sterling throughout Jackson County. That's just fact.

Moreover, we know that his perspective and meticulous data collection has also helped TV news stations better understand the Jackson County Property Tax crisis.

Finally, any county notice alleging "fraud" and using personal info is serious and the Courthouse could find itself confronting even more legal push back.

And so . . .

We'll share the note from the county but we trust Preston Smith's perspective and readers should know that the Courthouse in now in UNCHARTED TERRITORY by saying that they're not going to cooperate with a Missouri regulatory agency.

Here's the note . . . The story continues after . . .

Jackson County issues urgent fraud alert regarding State Tax Commission actions

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County recognizes the concerns and confusion many residents are experiencing due to the State Tax Commission's recent decision to dismiss their lawsuit with prejudice, while also issuing an unlawful and unprecedented order regarding the 2023 assessed valuations in Jackson County. We understand that increasing home values, coupled with the inconsistent and inaccurate assessments of the past, have created significant uncertainty and anxiety in our community.

Adding to this confusion is the creation and distribution of a fraudulent document falsely claiming to be issued by the Jackson County Collection Department. This document is not authorized, created, nor accepted by Jackson County, and its distribution is causing further distress to our community.

The County Executive has referred this matter to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, who is aware of the allegations and has begun a preliminary investigation. If you have any information pertinent to this investigation, please contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at (816) 541-8017.

Jackson County remains committed to addressing these challenges with transparency and accountability. We urge residents to stay informed and reach out to local authorities with any concerns they may have.
