A political axiom from a former Democratic Party leader:
"Never let a crisis go to waste."
Kansas City activists & politicos recently capitalized upon this tragic episode of human misery in the urban core as "inspiration" to provide more services that are already overcrowded and ineffective before they're even built . . . Take a peek:
It happened recently in the Sun Fresh; a naked woman ran into the store and started throwing things off the shelves.
They went to City Hall demanding change as the city considered an ordinance that would fund a detention center.
Councilwoman Melissa Robinson introduced the ordinance for the November ballot. It would have renewed a one-quarter cent capital improvement public safety sales tax for 32 years.
This would fund a detention center with a substance abuse facility, a low-barrier shelter, and transitional housing for the homeless.
“I’m concerned that individuals who are committing violent crimes are only being held for hours but let back out on the streets to do harm to other people,” Robinson said. “This is about making sure that people don’t do harm to themselves or do harm to others.”
