Kansas City Asks: Will Teens Charged In Shaun Brady Killing Walk???

Very recent history tells Kansas City residents that youngsters charged as juveniles in homicide cases won't likely incur lasting consequences.

To prove this point, locals need only to look to a deadly mass shooting during the 2024 Chiefs Super Bowl rally that should raise legit questions about accountability.

Reality check . . .

MANY SUSPECTS & SHOOTERS IN THE CHIEFS SUPER BOWL RALLY TRAGEDY ARE ALREADY OUT OF CUSTODY WITH NO CONSEQUENCES!!!

Police apprehended quite a few youngsters on that horrible day but few of them confronted any lasting legal sanctions.

This isn't just opinion, here's a quote and link from KMBC that backs up our contention . . .

The teen admitted to committing a Class B felony of unlawful use of a weapon by knowingly discharging or firing a firearm.

The Jackson County Juvenile Officer dismissed the second count of armed criminal action and said they would not certify the juvenile to stand trial as an adult.

The two other teens charged in the shooting will also not be tried as adults.

A 16-year-old teen was charged with gun-related crimes that do not rise to the level of felony charges.

The court ruled on June 12 that a second teen would not be tried as an adult.

Furthermore . . .

Even newspaper editorialists acknowledge that there's a very real likelihood that adults charged in the deadly Super Bowl mass shooting might be able to claim a "stand your ground" defense in order to argue their innocence . . . That is their right.

Now . . .

The Shaun Brady tragedy isn't so different inasmuch as most locals understand that murder charges against 15-year-olds are now out of favor by local courts in response to racially charged complaints regarding disparity.

To be fair some of those complaints aren't unfounded.

There's actually a great deal of study focused on racial disparity and juvenile sentencing.

Here's just one example from the SPLC:

Criminal Injustice: States unfairly prosecute children as adults

However . . .

So much legal theory and social science might distract us from the reality of the situation and our thesis:

In much the same way that quite a few teens "walked" after the tragic death of Lisa Lopez-Galvan. It's not unreasonable to contend that juveniles charged with the death of Shaun Brady will likely garner similar leniency.

Reactionaries might argue some imagined preference for Black communities, but make no mistake, suspected killers back on the street after minimal time in custody puts those very same urban neighborhoods at risk.

Our contention . . .

A revolving door for juvenile homicide suspects puts all of Kansas City under threat of the same kind of deadly lawlessness communities like Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore & D.C. have endured.

Moreover . . .

Juvenile charges and very little consequence for homicides are now THE START OF A HORRIFIC TREND IN KANSAS CITY and we shouldn't foolishly believe that this latest tragedy will be the last time it happens . . .

As a basement blogger, we don't pretend to have any answer for these concerns but what we know for certain is that these questions have been ignored, censored and downplayed in our local discourse.
