Kansas City 2024 Homicide #91: Gunfire Kills Victim As Police Search For Suspect

At this rate Kansas City might soon hit the homicide century mark in August as the local quotient of killing continues to rise this Summer.

Here's today's report on a crime scene and deadly shooting still under investigation . . .

Homicide 9500 block of Harrison

This morning just after 1015AM, officers were dispatched to the 9500 block of Harrison St. on a reported sound of shots.

When officers arrived to the area they were directed to a residence where an adult male was located near the doorway unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering medical aid until EMS could respond and take over. EMS transported the adult male victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

We do not have any preliminary information indicating what led up to the shooting, and we do not currently have anyone in custody.

The community has been instrumental in assisting with witness statements and detectives are making headway identifying a person of interest.

This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
