Jackson County Schools Consider Property Tax Rollback Lawsuit

A recent decision from the Missouri State Tax Commish might be one of the biggest boosts for local lawyers we've seen in years given the spike in lawsuit threats. 

However . . . 

As we noted earlier this weekend . . . Legal precedent belongs with Missouri regulatory agencies and there might not be a lot to fight over regarding their recent ruling.

The unpleasant reality is that school districts are cash rich from recent property tax hikes and this fighting this decision might just look greedy.

There is going to be a lot of looking at every option for all of those involved, he said.

School superintendents from across Jackson County met Friday over Zoom. They plan to stick together through a battle that will likely end up in court.

Jackson County assessment changes come as 'complete shock' to schools

Jackson County estimated an initial loss could be more than $115 million. The potential loss is a result of the Missouri State Tax Commission ordering a rollback on some property tax assessments.
