A hopeful effort that nobody endorsed was dutifully shut down in the Jackson County Legislature today.
Even worse . . .
As Kansas City Chiefs & Royals seem ready to move . . . There simply isn't any political leadership or public interest in keeping the teams.
Reality check: KCMO seems like it's willing to give the teams to Kansas without a fight.
In the meantime . . . Here's the aftermath of today's meeting that doesn't even qualify as dramatic:
The ballot question would have called for a 20-year extension of the sales tax, reduced to one-quarter of a cent. The tax would have aimed to keep the Chiefs in Jackson County for 20 years.

Because Missouri's ballot certification deadline is Tuesday, it is highly unlikely the measure will appear on the November ballot. The vote was 5-4.
The rejection concludes weeks of debate and discussion about the possibility of a new election in Jackson County.

Jackson County Legislature votes down 'Chiefs-only' ballot question
The Jackson County Legislature has voted against placing a Chiefs-only stadium sales tax on the November ballot.
Jackson Co. could put Chiefs-only sales tax on the ballot to keep stadium talks alive
If the Jackson County Legislature puts the proposed sales tax on the ballot, it would cost half of the current tax. It would only support the Chiefs in a play to keep the team in Missouri, leaving negotiations with the Royals to Kansas City and Missouri.
