How To Get Your Jackson County Property Tax Rollback Refund?!?

Let's start with context . . .

A ruling from the State Tax Commission said Jackson County did not correctly conduct its property assessment or appeal process. Executive Frank White has promised a court fight to challenge the ruling whilst, this week, the Legislature voted to accept the Missouri regulatory ruling.

Now, first and foremost . . .

TKC ADVISES READERS TO DO THEIR OWN RESEARCH & CONSULT WITH EXPERTS BEFORE MAKING ANY FINANCIAL DECISION!!!

Now . . .

This morning Jackson County Legislator and Preston Smith conducted a joint press conference in order to discuss getting money back to taxpayers.

From our perspective . . .

We've found that tax fighter Preston Smith has been 100% correct and shared tons of local info FOR FREE and at a great expense of his time in order to shed light this crisis and advocate for local property owners.

Accordingly . . .

We have no reservations about sharing his latest social media and press note that serves to offer taxpayers a great place to start their refund research.

Here's the word . . .

Preston Smith: How To Get Your Refund

The County has said that if you want a refund, then just forget it---it isn't going to happen.
BUT if you want to get the process started where, under the state law, the County MUST issue you an IOU, I did a video that explains what to do. You can watch the video at wethepeopleofjcmo.com
Here is a short summary of what I presented.

1. The State Tax Commission order says that the STC found that property that was increased by more than 15% since the last assessment resulted in "mistaken or erroneous assessments and taxes that were mistakenly or erroneously levied or paid in 2023."

2. Under Missouri Revised Statutes 139.031(5) ALL County Collectors SHALL, upon written application, shall refund or credit against the taxpayer's tax liability for ANY real or personal property tax mistakenly or erroneously levied against the taxpayer. The governing body, or other appropriate body or official of the county SHALL make available to the collector funds necessary to make refunds by issuing warrants upon the fund to which the mistaken or erroneous payment has been credited.

3. We are making application, using a form from Boone County Collectors, and we are demanding that Jackson County issue us an IOU or a REFUND NOW.

Even if Jackson County is not going to follow the state law, we are going to. We have received a response back today from the Jackson County Collector on this presentation. He said that I misspelled his name, which I fixed.

The goal here, folks, is to FLOOD the County offices with 200,000 packets of information, DEMANDING the refund or an IOU. For the last 14 months, the County has lied to us, jerked us around, intimidated us, made excuses, made errors, and wasted millions of dollars on an inaccurate assessment. HERE IS OUR CHANCE TO GIVE BACK JUST A LITTLE BIT OF HEARTBURN. After you mail this, email the Collector or call him every day and say, "Where's my money?" If enough people do this, and shut down the County's phone lines, clog up their servers and they get tired of people filling up the lobby of the courthouse, they are going to find the money. JUST WATCH.

Here is a PDF that explains what was on the video and tells you what to send to the County Collector. This PDF also has the form to fill out. PLEASE SEND THIS FAR AND WIDE.

Until then, gather your materials, find an envelope and get ready to send to the Collector and demand your money.

Here is a YouTube link to the "How to" video to fill out the form and send in a packet to the Collector.
