TKC Must See: KC PBS Democratic Primary Jackson County Prosecutor Debate

Please do TKC a favor and offer better description of this meetup than what local public TV provides.

Here's the description according to local newsies . . .

"For more than a decade, Jean Peters Baker has led the Jackson County Prosecutor's office. In November, Jackson County will select her replacement, but first, voters will have to narrow the field in the primary on August 6. Melesa Johnson, Stephanie Burton and John Gromowsky plead their cases for being the Democratic candidate to advance to the general election in this roundtable debate."

A few things from our vantage . . .

- Many claim this vote will be the most important in KC history . . . However, so far the clip has only garnered a few hundred views, almost no interaction and it seems like a lot of people just don't care. FACT: More people will see the debate via TKC embed than anywhere else.

- Public debates in Kansas City are typically useless . . . This town is far too polite to argue publicly about substantive issues.

- Again . . . In public there is a racially-charged component to this contest that's unmentioned. For the better part of 20 years local Black leaders have been working to earn leadership of this office and this is their best chance. However, there's still some debate as two candidates threaten to split the communities vote. Meanwhile, there have been allegations of racism throughout this debate that, thankfully, didn't garner much traction.
