State Of Public Safety In Kansas City Meetup Enjoys Stat Slump?!?

Year-to-date there have been fewer murders in Kansas City so far in 2024 and that's a very good thing.

However . . .

Thanks to BEST & BRIGHTEST TKC READERS we wanted to highlight a statistical insight that also deserves a moment of consideration.

And so let's talk about one of our favorite financial trend: The Dead Cat Bounce.

Definition . . .

"A dead cat bounce is a temporary, short-lived recovery of asset prices from a prolonged decline or a bear market that is followed by the continuation of the downtrend."

Some of the very smart people who read this blog are able to think in the converse and consider the other side of the trend . . .

An apt question that WASN'T ASKED amid recent crime conversation:

"Is the drop in KCMO crime sort of the opposite of a dead cat bounce??? Did the homicides get so high in the last few years that they're trending downward by chance not by better policy?"

An EXCEPTIONAL observation that we'll put stupidly in order to keep it simple:

REVERSE DEAD CAT BOUNCE TRICKS KANSAS CITY INTO DECLARING CRIME DROP VICTORY?!?

That's certainly a possibility given how much this town needs an easy win right now.

In the meantime . . .

Local politicos, law enforcement and so many beneficiaries of anti-crime funded programs recently gathered to talk local branding going forward . . .

"The Kansas City Public Safety Coalition, which includes 18 organizations, came together at Union Station to talk about the state of public safety throughout the city . . . It took place at Union Station, where the rest of the nation may have got a perception of Kansas City as a potentially violent place with the Super Bowl rally shooting. Now, city leaders are looking to restore that image as it prepares for the World Cup in less than two years."
