Show-Me Primary Fight: State Rep. Patty Lewis 'Denounces' Pat Contreras

As always . . .

Kansas City primary season is always testy amongst progressives.

Here's what we like . . .

Local politicos put on a nice face and calm voice for KCUR but our www.TonysKansasCity.com delivers far more interesting drama in a battle for one of the few spots controlled by Missouri Democrats.

Accordingly . . . Here's the word . . .

State Rep. Patty Lewis denounces misleading attempts to distort her record

Today, State Representative Patty Lewis (D-25) denounced Pat Contreras for making misleading attacks on her record.

“I’m disappointed that my opponent is following the Republican playbook of distorting a Democrat’s record instead of focusing on improving our economy, strengthening our education system, or restoring reproductive rights,” said State Rep. Lewis. “As a state representative, I’ve been proud to stand up for Kansas City, and I’ll continue that track record in the State Senate.”

“Patty Lewis has been one of Kansas City’s strongest champions in the State House over the last four years. To suggest otherwise is laughable,” said State Rep. Emily Weber. “Now more than ever, Democrats need to be united in the face of right-wing extremism. It’s just unacceptable that Pat Contreras would reuse misleading Republican talking points for his own political gain.”

Contreras’ attacks against State Rep. Lewis come as her campaign continues to gain momentum at a critical point in the race. To date, Lewis has garnered support from a wide range of people and organizations including the Kansas City Star, Sen. Tracy McCreery (D-24), State Reps. Emily Weber (D-24), Ashley Bland Manlove (D-26), and Anthony Ealy Jr. (D-36), City Councilmen Wes Rogers and Jonathan Duncan, Missouri Nurses Association, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes, Southland Progress, South KC Dems, Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus, AFT Local 691, MNEA, Teamsters Locals 41 and 541, IAFF Local 42, Laborers Locals 264 and 663, IBEW Local 124, and the Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO. Lewis has represented Missouri’s 25th House District for four years, and is currently running to fill the vacancy in the 7th Senate District created by a gubernatorial appointment.
