This week more murder charges against a suspected homicidal creeper rekindle allegations of racism.
Nevertheless, it's kind of important to go back and remember a bit of context.
There are two things about this case that local media seem uncomfortable pointing out:
Reportedly, some of the victims were street level sex workers . . . This is a dangerous endeavor and, tragically, an illicit practice where women in dire circumstances encounter horrific risk.
Also . . .
Irresponsible rumors among some African-American clergy and social media influencers created a frenzy that didn't help law enforcement and created chaos rather than cooperation with police.
Still . . .
We think blame is mostly pointless and doesn't help the cause of justice.
However . . .
We can't help agree with the basics of a recent sentiment that ALL PEOPLE deserve protection against violence . . .
“It took a long time to get to this point,” said Gwen Grant, president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, speaking about the murder charge. “This case underscores the need for equal protection, equal focus, heightened protection and support for our most vulnerable populations — in this particular case — Black women,” Grant said.
