"The FBI recently reported an uptick in complaints regarding fake road toll collection service texts and no state is immune. With cashless tolling starting, the Kansas Turnpike Authority and Better Business Bureau want to help Kansans understand the new process and recognize the warning signs of a scam before it’s too late.
"In May, a text-message-based scam circulated throughout Kansas, requesting payment for unpaid tolls, under the name “Kansas Toll Services.” Following this smishing incident, KTA continues to remind its customers that just because a text looks legitimate doesn’t mean it is.
" 'We don’t send unsolicited texts or emails, ' KTA Director of Business Services and Customer Relations Rachel Bell said. 'The customer can control all of those notifications by going into their account and choosing how they want to hear from us.' "
