Not that anybody will put up a fight . . .
But laws targeting people assembling typically fall apart in court. Thankfully, the US Constitution offers broad protection for people and their right to public space.
However, now that the Supreme Court has ruled against hobos sleeping in the park, maybe more strict rules are the way of the future.
To be fair . . .
This is the first suburban effort to push back against rampant Summer sideshows given that recent crackdowns don't seem to be working. The threat against charging patrons is a new tactic.
Check-it:
The new ordinance says it is an unlawful assembly whenever two or more people assemble to witness or participate in a drag race or illegal vehicle speed competition. The new section concerning spectators defines them as anyone within 200 feet of the event.
“Crowds fuel racers, racers fuel the crowds. We have to have some way to stop that it if it starts moving this direction,” Gladstone Police Chief Fred Farris said.

Gladstone makes street races and sideshows illegal for spectators
Gladstone City Council unanimously passed an ordinance Monday night, making it illegal to participate in or watch unsanctioned street races and sideshows.
