An important part of our political story here at www.TonysKansasCity.com . . . Close readers might remember that our bloggy journey began during this administration.
And now, here's the career conclusion of Kansas City's first lady mayor . . .
Former Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Kay Barnes has announced her retirement from Park University, effective Wednesday, July 31.
Following her two terms as Kansas City’s first woman mayor, Barnes joined Park as the director of the Center for Leadership in May 2007. Since 2018, she has served the University as the senior director for university engagement, representing Park within the Greater Kansas City community and as a staff liaison to Park’s Civic Advisory Council, a group of Kansas City business, civic and nonprofit leaders. In addition, she has been a participant in Park University public programs over the years, most recently moderating a Women’s History Month alumni panel discussion in March. She also delivered Park’s Commencement address in December 2006 when she was KCMO mayor.
