Tenants with the Heartland Center for Jobs and Freedom, a nonprofit in Kansas City, Missouri, announced on Wednesday, July 31, that they have claimed two major victories this week following separate court rulings.

The organization noted that a long-awaited ruling was delivered in the matter of Quality Hill Apartments LP v. Keyon Hardin, which awarded the defendant more than $19,000 in back rent and damages. An eviction case opened by Quality Hill was thrown out.

After a 6-day trial in 2023, court records indicated that the apartment was found to be infested with cockroaches the entire time A TENANT lived there. What was also described as “sewage discharge” prevented him from showering and even caused him to vomit.
