This morning we notice dead-tree media offering a new facet of their biz that isn't quite as useful as the the very same FACEBOOK EVENT CALENDAR THAT'S FREE AND MUCH MORE WIDELY USED THAN THE NEWSPAPER WEBSITE!!!!
We feel their pain . . .
The Pitch Calendar was once a profit center for the alt. mag but now it's not even good toilet reading.
TKC considered a calendar scheme until we got a really good look at the algorithmic and AI goodness of the Zuck's FB offering.
Accordingly . . .
KANSAS CITY MEDIA COMPETITION AGAINST TECH GIANTS IS A LOSING GAME!!!
Sadly . . .
The Kansas City Star still hasn't figured out how to compete against big tech as their resources dwindle and readers lose interest.
Still . . .
We admire their struggle and continued efforts to reinvent the wheel . . .
"You’ve told us how you want to know what’s happening in our region and how you can get involved with events in our neighborhoods. The Star’s digital events calendar is a great way to share announcements with your neighbors."
Yes, there's a free option for The Star listing but there's a hope that suckers will "boost" their event with a paid option . . . With a much smaller pool of interest than the phone spy app in everyone's pocket.
