Chiefs & Royals Move To Kansas: Racist White Flight Redux?!?

Right now the Kansas City Chiefs are a Super Bowl dynasty. 

One of their star players currently parties with royalty and the global elite A-list. 

The Chiefs are at the pinnacle of their power and fans believe that the young team can only get better. 

And so . . .

The team's hubris seems justified by supporters.

In fact, the love for the team is so great that acolytes seem willing to support their every decision.

Here's some survey data to back up this premise and offer a glimpse of dedication to Super Bowl champs:

87% of Chiefs fans said they would still be a fan of the team if they play in a new stadium in Kansas.

That's a bold statement . . . But it doesn't share the whole picture. 

Consider . . . 

2012 wasn't so long ago when a star player was involved in a murder/suicide and fans launched a boycott of the team.

Of course we don't wish hard times on anyone but we can say with some degree of confidence that the Chiefs won't be able to sustain this level of success forever. 

Remember when the Royals promised a small market dynasty?!?!?

And this brings us to our main point . . . 

CHIEFS & ROYALS ARE MISTAKEN IF THEY BELIEVE THEY CAN SLAP KCMO IN THE FACE AND LEAVE TOWN WITHOUT ANY CONSEQUENCE TO THEIR BRAND!!!

Even worse . . .

SKETCHY PLANS TO MOVE ACROSS THE STATE LINE ONLY SERVE TO INCITE LOCAL DIVISIONS & BUILD RESENTMENT AGAINST GREEDY OWNERS!!!

Consider . . .

Usually, when teams move . . . They relocate far, far away because abandoning a city is a horrible insult to hundreds of thousands of people.

This season former fans of the Oakland A's have embarrassed the team ahead of relocation to Vegas.

Accordingly . . .

IT'S OKAY FOR KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI RESIDENTS TO REJECT PHONY IDEA OF REGIONALISM & METRO UNITY IN ORDER TO BENEFIT BILLIONAIRE OWNERS!!!

In fact some insiders suggest . . .

IT'S TIME FOR KANSAS CITY TO START PLAYING TOUGH WITH CLARK HUNT & JOHN SHERMAN AND PROMISE THEM SERIOUS BRAND DAMAGE FOR SKETCHY NEGOTIATIONS THEY'RE RUNNING!!!

INSIDERS NOW CONTEND: CHIEFS & ROYALS MOVING TO KANSAS SUBURBS IS THE SAME KIND OF WHITE FLIGHT INFLICTED KCMO AMID THE CIVIL RIGHTS ERA!!!

A quick refresher course . . . 

Until the later part of the 20th century, Johnson County was once MOSTLY farm land. 

When the Civil Rights movement slowly but surely changed laws and desegregation became a fact of life, families exited areas with a high concentration of African-Americans like KCMO and moved to the suburbs. 

The ensuing history of redlining and block busting is a well documented facet of recent KC metro history.

Insiders now tell www.TonysKansasCity.com . . .

Given the high concentration of "people of color" in KCMO political leadership positions . . . Kansas City Chiefs & Royals abandon the urban core, look toward the suburbs of Kansas and the much less diverse Kansas state house in order to maintain the status quo.

The "evidence" for this argument . . .

Only now the Chiefs & Royals seem unable to achieve cooperation with the Jackson County courthouse and this coincides with the first time that people of color comprise the majority of elected officials in that elected body. 

Before readers get too angry about this level of discourse . . .

This is all subjective and people who actually know how the negotiations are working understand the problems with this argument.

However . . .

We indulged this rhetorical lark in order to demonstrate that Chiefs & Royals are TOTES underestimating how ugly this thing can get and they're WRONG if they think they can waltz across the state line and alienate a city of more than 500,000 people who have witnessed this same kind of abandonment in the not-so-distant past.
