Should Kansas City Recycle 'Broken Windows Theory' To Fight Crime?!?!

Of course and as always, we must define terms . . .

"In criminology, the Broken Windows Theory states that visible signs of crime, antisocial behavior and civil disorder create an urban environment that encourages further crime and disorder, including serious crimes. The theory suggests that policing methods that target minor crimes, such as vandalism, loitering, public drinking and fare evasion, help to create an atmosphere of order and lawfulness."

From our perspective . . .

There is legitimate debate regarding the efficacy of the broken windows theory BUT at least efforts supporting the idea could result in some form of urban renewal and THAT'S MUCH MORE PRODUCTIVE than the current local crime fighting trend which mistakenly hinges on offering no show jobs given to politically connected activists.

Here's a more hopeful consideration from the only conservative working at the newspaper . . .

"It turns out that reducing blight reduces crime. In a citywide experiment, the LandCare program was found shootings reduced by 8% and nuisance crimes reduce by 7% around remediated lots. In neighborhoods below the poverty line, these effects were even more pronounced, with a 29% reduction in gun assaults."
