Memorial Day 2024 Question: Is Kansas City's 'Celebration At The Station' Safe?!?

Answer . . .

Of course the Union Station Celebration At The Station is as safe as any other KCMO event. Probably moreso.

However there's something political at play in this story that NOBODY wants to discuss openly:

DOES ANYBODY REALLY THINK KC SYMPHONY EVENTS HONORING AMERICAN TRADITIONS WOULD BRING OUT ROWDY CROWDS?!?

The implication is that this event might be in danger of a mass shooting just like the Chiefs rally.

However . . .

The premise is dishonest.

In the case of the Super Bow Chiefs rally tragedy . . . The crowd size was several times larger than this weekend event and attracted gang members and gun toting tough guys with bad attitudes and criminal records . . . This isn't the crowd that typically wants to listen to the symphony.

To be fair . . .

Assurances about people getting back to their cars safely or security concerns in the age of global terrorism would have been far more relevant.

Our main takeaway . . .

Politicos putting forward the notion that KC Symphony patrons are going to start beef and engage in a shootout is ridiculous and gives us less confidence that our elected leaders are serious about crime fighting.

Still, it's important to know what the Mayor had to say . . .

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas announced on Friday, May 24, that those worried about safety at Union Station ahead of Celebration at the Station have little reason to be, with extra security planned.

“This will be the first major public event that occurs in front of Union Station following the shooting following the Chiefs Super Bowl parade,” Mayor Lucas told the city. “We recognize it is a large event. I plan to be there with my family, many other Kansas Citians will as well.”
