This party place only had a few years as a sports bar until the clientele "shifted" and the place hosted a more diverse crowd.
Local TV news is blaming a somewhat recent mass shooting.
The reality . . .
WESTPORT ALE HOUSE CONFRONTED CONSTANT PROBLEMS & VIOLENCE DURING THEIR TROUBLED TENURE AND NOBODY IS BUYING THEIR INFLATION EXCUSE!!!
As always . . .
We're not going to take this story TOO SERIOUSLY because the place was always a somewhat mediocre venue even in its heyday.
The more important question is this:
IS WORSENING KANSAS CITY VIOLENCE KILLING WHAT'S LEFT OF WESTPORT NIGHT LIFE?!?
This venue was outside of security checkpoints and, unfortunately, that was part of its appeal.
Moreover . . . And the point of our post on the topic . . .
The spot unwisely leaned into their diverse clientele without a MASSIVE boost in security and THAT was the source of so many late night troubles.
Unlike so many old codgers . . . We won't suggest that the urban core "can't have anything nice" because of demographic prejudice . . . That's a scared philosophy that overlooks so many successful biz ventures that serve diverse demographics with no problems.
In fact . . . Westport Ale House was PACKED most weekend nights and making money hand over fist EXCEPT when tragic violence interfered.
Similarly . . .
Off the top of our head we point to so many mojado Latino places that openly host a vast array of shady characters and . . . Even better . . . There's a great daiquiri bar in the 18th & Vine district that offers really fun and raucous events without much trouble . . . HOWEVER THESE SPOTS TAKE SECURITY VERY SERIOUSLY and they're more locked down than a bank.
Like it or not . . . That's the world we live in right now . . .
Places selling booze in a party district encounter EPIC liability & risk.
Moreover . . .
The numbers don't lie . . . This town is getting more violent and OF COURSE our party scene reflects that reality.
And so . . .
We'll post the official excuse that blames the economy . . . Even if locals know differently . . .
"It is with our deepest regret to notify you all that after 10 years, we are officially closing the doors to the Westport Ale House. Like numerous bars and restaurants across the United States, we are closing due to the numerous inflationary increases from food and beverage costs, insurance, and rent, which made operations unsustainable. We would have been forced to raise prices to amounts not feasible for our customers.
"We want to thank the city of Kansas City, Missouri and the community of Westport for the opportunity to have been a part of such a vibrant and staple part of our metropolitan area.
"We want to thank all of the loyal, dedicated and hardworking employees over the years who helped build, maintain and operate the Westport Ale House.
"To our customers, we thank you for your loyalty, love and support of the Westport Ale House. We are so appreciative and fortunate to have served so many wonderful people over the years. Thank you for the memories and for your support.
"Best, The Westport Ale House Team"
