Weeks after Jackson County voters REJECTED a sales tax extension in favor of sketchy promises from activists & tough talk from keyboard warriors & bots . . . Elected officials are scrambling to control the narrative and avoid the very real risk of KCMO losing both Chiefs & Royals.
Sadly . . . Despite a great back & forth discussion . . . Here's what we didn't hear:
Any REAL DEETS about funding mechanisms KCMO would use to keep the Royals & Chiefs.
Remember . . . We covered this previously . . .
- A sales tax would require Missouri buy-in . . .
- Bonds would require a vote . . .
- And Port KC doesn't have TWO BILLION BUCKS lying around.
Forgive us for being skeptical . . .
BUT THERE'S A VERY REAL POSSIBILITY THAT MAYOR Q & LEGISLATOR MEGAN MARSHALL ARE JUST PERFORMING DAMAGE CONTROL AS THEIR BARGAINING POSITION QUICKLY FADES!!!
In the meantime . . .
We were disappointed that there wasn't any discussion of the Mayor's controversial"open invite" to NYC migrants.
Still . . . Here's the conversation with another update coming a bit later before the crack of noon . . .
"Nick Haines talks one-on-one with Mayor Quinton Lucas about reports that Kansas City intends to assume control of stadium negotiations, the latest on the Plaza real estate deal and how the city intends to address lingering violent crime issues. Plus, Jackson County Legislator Megan Marshall sits down to discuss the county's reaction to reports about stadium negotiations as well as other issues."
