Kansas City Stadium Tax Debate: Who Won?!?

This week our betters packed the KC Public Library in order to talk tax cash and pro sports.

Hint:

NONE OF THIS WILL INFLUENCE KANSAS CITY VOTERS AT ALL BUT IT'S FUN TO WATCH LOCAL POWER PLAYERS SPIN THEIR AGENDA!!!

A few highlights from our vantage . . .

- Activists dominate the crowd and that might not be a good sampling of public opinion given that they don't seem to seem to have very much in common with legions of local sports fans who might not want to tell back-to-back Super Bowl champs to find another town.

- Credit to former Mayor Sly for having the guts wear sneakers on stage. Also the former Marine deserves credit as the only guy in Kansas City who is brave enough speak up against activist bullying.

- Patrick Tuohey is the smartest guy in the room but also the least convincing. As a Republican conservative he's in a precarious spot wherein he's attempting to argue low-tax common sense to progressives who despise almost everything else he stand for . . . To his credit, he provides EXCEPTIONAL info and even garnered a few golf claps from strange political bedfellows on this issue.

For anybody willing to put in the time . . . This is probably the mainstream view of the fight and we'd like to know what TKC readers think . . . Here's more description and the clip . . .

"On the fence of voting yes or no? In partnership with Kansas City Public Library and American Public Square, this Week in Review special, moderated by Nick Haines, explores the pros, cons and potential impact of passing or rejecting the 3/8-cent sales tax for the Chiefs and Royals stadiums. Jackson County residents cast their votes on April 2, shaping the future of downtown, the Crossroads district and major league sports in KC."
