Boosters inside the loop seem to be setting themselves up for FAIL.
This effort to "listen" to the public is far too little & late to convince the vast majority of voters.
Even worse, it will either platform the loudest voices against the plan OR stifle criticism and garner even more support for the opposition.
Still . . .
The hope of this local group therapy session seems to be that supporters will start speaking up for job creation and garner "earned media" clips that overpower growing grassroots sentiment.
In other words . . . Upcoming "listening sessions" echo many rigged "conversations" that have preceded almost every construction effort in Kansas City.
Here's the word from Bill Dietrich, President & CEO at Downtown Council of Kansas City:
Building support begins by listening to community aspirations and concerns. To that end the campaign is beginning with a robust and transparent community engagement initiative; three “Listening Sessions”. Chiefs’ and Royals’ leadership will host the listening sessions.
- The first in-person session is Monday, March 11, 2:30PM to 3:45PM in the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Board Room at Union Station
- The second in-person session is Monday, March 18, 2:30PM to 3:45PM at Arrowhead, room details are to follow.
- The final listening session is virtual-only on Tuesday, March 26, 11:00AM to 12:15PM and 3:00PM to 4:15PM.
