And so, we're approaching the climax of an American spectacle wherein neither the outcome nor the cause matter as much as the pure enjoyment of the circus.
One of our favorite parts of the fun . . . The emergence of "prop bets" finally hit the mainstream.
For the uninitiated . . .
"In gambling, a "proposition bet" (prop bet, prop, novelty, or a side bet) is a bet made regarding the occurrence or non-occurrence during a game (usually a gambling game) of an event not directly affecting the game's final outcome."
As with most things, we're not emotionally invested in the way that a ball might bounce.
But that doesn't mean that this whole thing isn't a fun time.
Accordingly . . .
Our TKC prop bet is simple . . .
Given that Usher is the halftime performer . . . We're wagering that Lil Jon not only makes it to the stage but that he performs a trifecta and screams: Yeah! Okay! And asks: "What?!?!"
For those who don't remember Lil Jon's halftime show performance last year at Arrowhead . . . Here's more context from one of our favorite old school comedy skits . . .
Again, we'll help loyal readers review . . .
"Jonathan H. Smith, better known by his stage name Lil Jon, is an American rapper, record producer and hype man. He was instrumental in the commercial breakthrough of the hip hop subgenre crunk in the early 2000s, and is often credited as a progenitor of the genre."
Don't let his showbiz attire distract . . .
He's an accomplished man from a well-respected military family . . .
Lil Jon attended a prestigious Jesuit university and even lectured at Oxford University.
Again . . . If Lil Jon manages to say his three most famous catch phrases . . . TKC will take home coffee money for the rest of the year . . .
Even better, if Lil Jon can utter the line "Skeet, skeet, skeet, etc." then we might even get another redesign on this dump of a blog.
Just like everyone else . . . We have A LOT riding on this game.
And so we'll leave you to your dreams and this www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist tonight . . .
Get Low is probably our favorite track that features Lil Jon if only because the song is insistent, it defies logic and the dance-able beat speaks to the deeper, innate impulses of the cerebral cortex that help us to escape the trappings of this overly complicated digital age and evoke emotion in the here and now by way of dancing, yelling and/or maybe drinking from a chalice in defiance of stodgy tradition.
Shots is a party anthem from the early 2010s that your MAGA drunk uncle secretly loves.
Yeah! by Usher is the reason we're hoping for a Lil Jon Super Bowl appearance and we believe the odds are in our favor.
Lovers & friends is a decent slow track that helps us transition into Sunday, relax and remind ourselves that 1977's Black Sunday was actually just a horrible movie.
Finally . . . Close readers know this is one of our faves . . . Maybe the very best song featuring Lil Jon that transcends every musical era with a video that's more captivating and fun than a football game.
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
