Kansas City Crossroads Fears Downtown Stadium Eminent Domain Fight

This report is hidden behind the paywall and it's intended for the local biz class.

However, for the sake of newsworthy "fair use" and the public trust . . . We "liberated" the most important that might signal EPIC fighting confronting local biz who MIGHT be betrayed by voters, politicos and the home team . . . The upshot:

EXPECT BITTER PROTEST & DEBATE IF DOWNTOWN DIGS FOR KANSAS CITY ROYALS THREATEN LOCAL CREATIVES & SMALL BIZ!!!

Of course the home team could've done us all a favor by just being up front about their destination inside the loop.

But there's no fun in honest & forthright conversations with taxpayers.

Instead, blood curses and even more threats to private property might cause people to lose their Super Bowl goodwill and turn on the Royals & Chiefs in a low turnout election.

Take a peek:

"The Royals themselves cannot condemn property. The power of eminent domain rests with different condemning authorities, such as local and state governmental bodies, economic development agencies and other groups such as private oil, gas and electric utility companies.

"Most of the cases where Kansas City has directly initiated condemnation involved taking agricultural land for "public use" projects, such as road improvements, recreational trails, sidewalks and storm drains. For one municipal project, the police department's East Patrol Campus in the Wendell Phillips neighborhood, the city condemned and tore down dozens of occupied single-family homes between 2012 and 2014 . . .

"The Royals don't yet have full control of a stadium location but could announce their pick any time, as an April 2 stadium sales tax vote approaches for the team and the Kansas City Chiefs. If the owners of any Crossroads properties refuse to sell, the scope of any forcible takings — and how much Kansas City could have to pay for them — may become apparent only after ballots are cast."

KC has multiple ways to condemn properties for a Royals ballpark, eminent domain experts say - Kansas City Business Journal

The Kansas City Royals haven't yet announced where they want to build a downtown ballpark, but the East Crossroads appears to be at the top of their list. Given the number of parcels and variety of ownership there, experts say the team could use eminent domain to acquire needed land there.
