Kansas City 2024 Homicide #5: Victim Dies After Parking Lot Gunfire

Thankfully, the arctic chill cooled the historic pace of homicides.

In a historic year for killing on local streets, last year the total was already 13 by this date on the calendar. The year before that KCMO had racked up 15 homicides by this point. It's too early to celebrate a 61% decrease in homicides so far BUT we'll take any good news where we can find it.

Sadly . . . 

Once again, local violence has ramped up again during fake Spring.

Late Death: 100 Blk W 99 Ter

On 01-31-24 just before 11:00 AM Kansas City Police Officers responded to the 100 blk of W 99th ter. on a reported shooting. Upon arrival officers were directed to a lower parking garage of an apartment complex. Officers located a victim in a parking garage who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. EMS responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where the subject was listed in critical condition.

On 02-03-24 detectives were notified the victim died from their injuries.  Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation and this will be investigated as a homicide.

There is not anyone in custody at this time and there is not any suspect information.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

KCPD: Victim shot in parking garage on Wednesday dies from wounds over weekend

On Saturday, the Kansas City Police Department announced the late death of a victim who was shot in a parking garage earlier in the week.

Kansas City homicide detectives are investigating a Jan. 31 shooting near Willow Creek apartments that allegedly took someone's life three days later.
